It all started in January 2016 with a single Apple Mac, a coffee machine and a burning desire to build a truly great place to work.

There were 4 of us when we opened the doors and four years later, we’ve grown to 33 and counting. The early days were challenging. It was dark outside; the rain was lashing against the window of our small West Bridgford office and the phone wasn’t ringing. But we’re proud to say that everyone who was with us on day 1 is still with us today.

    From our hub in the centre of Nottingham we specialise in six key industries: Accounting & Finance, HR, IT & Tech, Marketing, Office Support, and Supply Chain & Procurement. Given our central location and continued investment in state-of-the-art technology, we are well placed to support clients and candidates across the UK.

    Our average length of service in recruitment is over 5 years, with a number of our consultants having well over 15 years of experience. We firmly believe we have the best people in the industry, so whether you’re looking for a new role or looking to recruit into your team, you’ll be in safe hands.

    Safe to say the hardest bit of setting up a business was deciding on a name (and finding a domain address that hadn’t been taken). Not many people know this, but we were initially called Tao. We weren’t convinced though. Read our blog:

    2 months until trading starts and we’re ready to push the button on our branding, somewhere in the depths of the grey matter, came the name Distinct”. You just know when something’s right. Now it’s getting exciting.

    3 months in and Ros Day joined us as our Finance Manager. We’re not quite sure how we survived for so long without her. Ros soon gets the Distinct back-office in order and we’re now in a position to really kick on.

    Distinct and Vision Express team up to host a 5-aside charity football tournament and go on to raise £3,700 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. (We didn’t know it at the time, but this is now an annual date in our events calendar, with each year getting bigger and better).

    With the help of our Digital Marketing Agency, we team up with giffgaff to produce an estimate on ‘Which Friends Character Earns the Most?’ This went on to be published in the likes of Cosmopolitan, The Independent, Metro and Comedy Central.

    We reach a milestone Social Media moment with 5,000 LinkedIn followers. We also host the first ever East Midlands Finance Awards and over 130 guests! Not sure who’s idea it was to time our Europe incentive trip (and 6am flight!) for the day after the awards, but luckily nobody minded when we learnt we were going to Hvar!

    We believe we’ve created an environment that clients and candidates want to visit and where our staff don’t want to work anywhere else!

    Our communal area is large enough to host our own events and has recently been renovated to accommodate our team break-out sessions and relaxed candidate meetings.

    Our four meeting rooms have also had a facelift, and we’re able to rent these out to our clients for free - so you can run your own meetings or interviews in a neutral, modern, city centre location with pretty awesome views.

    From our Head Office in Nottingham, we recruit across the whole Midlands.

    No. Not at all. We’re a friendly bunch and we love to talk so get in touch. We’ll even be happy to help you put your CV together.

    At no point do our candidates pay us for our service.

    We’re based in the heart of Nottingham, just off Market Square so if you’re able to give us a call beforehand, we’ll make sure someone can sit down with you here. If not, don’t worry, we’ll be happy to meet off site or even do a call using our own video chat programme.

    If you have been hired for a Permanent role then you will receive a contract from the company you’ve been hired by.

    If you have been hired for a Temp role, then yes. PAYE temporary staff are employed and paid by Distinct Recruitment Ltd. We will deduct all statutory payments due from your pay, issue your payslips and pay your wages weekly (Friday or the closest working day in the case of a Bank Holiday) into your bank account.

    Contractors can also choose to operate under an Umbrella Company. Which makes the Umbrella Company your employer, they will issue your contract and make any payments and deductions.

    A contractor can also choose to be employed by their own Ltd Company.

    The most straight forward and hassle-free way to recruit your role is to work with an agency on an exclusive basis. If you engage with Distinct exclusively, quite simply, you’ll get the best candidate for your job. This might be someone who isn’t actively looking for a new position either.     This will depend on the level and type of role. When you engage our service, we will send you a copy of our terms and conditions where our fees are clearly outlined before you commit to working with us.

    That’s not a problem. All our Consultants work closely together, and you’ll be well looked after. Simply fill in the contact form below, outlining your requirements, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

    As a local business and a recruitment agency, we know better than most how important Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is.

    It says a lot about our Environment, Culture and Values. What we stand for. At Distinct, we set out to create a company that people are proud to work for, a company who people are proud to work with, and a company that gives back.

      As a company, we probably do enough.
    • We recycle (yes, some businesses still don’t recycle)
    • Our client & candidate gifts include litre sized glass bottles and reusable coffee cups (save the Planet!)
    • We organise and run an annual charity football tournament with all proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust (and we let the other teams win)
    • All of our staff are given three days paid annual leave to do volunteer / charity work of their choice (Our CEO & Director decided to use this time wisely and sleep outside for the night)
    • We even employ two vegans (one is simply known as ‘Vegan’)

    We probably do enough. But we could do so much more, and we want to.

    We have ambitious plans for our CSR. As our business grows and we become more successful, it’s important to reinvest. But we’re not greedy, and there will come a time (and it’s coming soon) when we will be able to give back a lot more and hopefully make a huge difference to the lives of others. So, watch this space.
