2 months until trading starts and we’re ready to push the button on our branding, somewhere in the depths of the grey matter, came the name Distinct”. You just know when something’s right. Now it’s getting exciting.

Distinct begins trading with a team of 4, in a tiny office in West Bridgford. Initial disciplines are Finance / Procurement / Supply Chain / HR and Marketing. Read our blog:

3 months in and Ros Day joined us as our Finance Manager. We’re not quite sure how we survived for so long without her. Ros soon gets the Distinct back-office in order and we’re now in a position to really kick on.

Distinct and Vision Express team up to host a 5-aside charity football tournament and go on to raise £3,700 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. (We didn’t know it at the time, but this is now an annual date in our events calendar, with each year getting bigger and better).

With the help of our Digital Marketing Agency, we team up with giffgaff to produce an estimate on 'Which Friends Character Earns the Most?' This went on to be published in the likes of Cosmopolitan, The Independent, Metro and Comedy Central.

We celebrate our best month of revenue yet by taking everyone to London.

We reach a milestone Social Media moment with 5,000 LinkedIn followers. We also host the first ever East Midlands Finance Awards and over 130 guests! Not sure who’s idea it was to time our Europe incentive trip (and 6am flight!) for the day after the awards, but luckily nobody minded when we learnt we were going to Hvar!

We were delighted to win ‘Small Business of the Year’ (Up to 50 staff) at the East Midlands Business Masters 2020 Awards.

Under new advice from the government, we made the decision to prioritise the wellbeing of our staff and work from home. Then from April through to July, most of the team were furloughed and 8 of us carried on working. Read our post: An update from our CEO

During this time, slowly but surely we were able to add more people to the team. Together we had:
150 team Zoom calls and 15 weekly video updates from our CEO.
We made 3879 Candidate calls.
We added 153 new jobs.
And we placed 51 people.

We made the decision to invite everybody back to work, and even started to return to the office!

Despite all of the challenges in 2020, it was extremely important for us to carry on with our plans to expand our reach across the UK. Between August and October we welcomed 4 new faces to the team AND acquired workspaces in Milton Keynes and Central London.
