So, today I return back from 3 months of being on furlough leave, wow well what a few months it has been!
It has been a funny old time hasn’t it? With my mood changing, not only on a daily but sometimes hourly basis, ask my friends and family I am always, always on the go and I’m the biggest hugger in the game, so adapting to a new normal (like for all of us) has been tricky.
So what I have learnt from this experience? Slowing things down and taking a step back isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Having this opportunity to spend all this time with my son, Dexter has been the most incredible gift I could imagine. Don’t get me wrong, home schooling has had its challenges at times, but I have learnt so much from him, I have been able to see him grow (in both senses of the word), his maturity, eloquence and unique approach to life, his humour and short fuse (that we share in equal measure) has been an eye-opening delight. I have learnt about Egyptian Dynasties, Fractions, Fronted adverbials (what are they? I’m still not sure), but most importantly I know about all of the skins in FORTNITE… an eye-opening world indeed! Spending quality time on those daily walks, nature hunts and gaming chit chat has been a real delight, so I am truly thankful for this gift of time….
I also feel truly privileged to be working for a company who has been so flexible and considerate for its people, being aware of their personal circumstance, home schooling and alike, I now return on a flexible part time basis, which I am massively grateful for.
So, I return to Distinct HQ with a mixture of not only huge excitement, but in all honesty a bit of apprehension too, typing seems like a bit of a challenge and I do have a slight concern about getting out of my leggings and wearing makeup again…. YIKES – No one needs to see that!
It’s wonderful that the cogs are beginning to turn again on the economy and that we are all getting back to a new normal and I am excited to be part of it. So, in essence I just wanted to reintroduce myself and say a quick hello. I would love to speak to you if you’re working in the HR space, it will be great to hear your perspective and challenges over the last few months and let me know if I can support you in any way.
Hello brave new world, I’m back and ready for you!< Back to Blog
