IT Infrastructure Engineer | £25,000 - £30,000 per annum | Burton on Trent
In the world of IT support your career usually goes down 1 of 2 paths. You either work on a service desk, progressing your way up through 1st, 2nd 3rd line and then you specialise for project work. Or you work in a smaller IT team where everyone does a bit of everything and you progress by gaining and using more skills / knowledge as opposed to moving up a food-chain.
This opportunity is the second one. The one where you will do a bit of everything as the "go to" person within the business for all IT support queries.
You'll be integral to the growth & success of this business & you'll be recognised & respected for it. You'll be joining a small team of 2 (to make a team of 3) who support 100-150 UK users across 2 sites, and who in turn, make up part of a larger global IT team. That said, you don't have to worry about company politics here - each country's IT team is run in their own way, with no monthly directives coming from "head office" in some other country. So although you've got the budget of a global IT team, your individual team make their own decisions, just like a small company would. It's the best of both worlds!
As they are a manufacturing company you will be supporting on a huge variety of hardware, software, network & server queries in a combined 1st, 2nd & 3rd line type of role. You will be the face of IT to the business so it's imperative that you have excellent communication skills. You aren't expected to know everything from day 1 though, you will be fully supported by the IT manager & the wider team to help you get up to speed & to continue to learn & take on more responsibility over the course of your career.
The key tech involved is:
· Windows servers (the usual suspects)
· Cisco switching
· Firewall technology (Palo Alto & ForceNet)
· Hyper-converged infrastructure / HCI (VxRail)
· Meraki wireless
· VMware, vSphere
The thing that excites me the most about this role, team & company isn’t just that you’re joining a fantastic team with a great culture & working practices, it’s the fact that they have a brand new private cloud, built using Hyper-Converged Infrastructure running direct integration with VMware & vSphere (vSAN) - there aren't many companies pushing the boundaries like this with enterprise level tech, so this is a great opportunity to be a part of it & help to continue to define this company's journey using the latest offerings in technology.
This role is paying up to £30,000 per annum and because you'll often be problem solving in real-time, you will need to be based 100% on site in Burton-on-Trent for this role, there is no scope for home working.
