IT Manager | Nottingham | £40,000 - £60,000 per annum
If you are looking for a stable yet challenging role, look no further! On offer here is the opportunity to join an ambitious, local, specialist, tech-led business as IT Manager. They are a small, well established business who are growing rapidly, and in order to continue to grow properly they need an IT Manager at the helm who can keep them on the right path. Their existing IT Manager has just been promoted into a role with one of their sister companies after just 12 months in the role, so they're in need of an energetic and passionate techie to take the baton & grow with them.
You’ll be in a stand-alone role, so you’ll need to be both practical & hands on, as well as strategically minded and project-orientated, ready to pivot onto different projects at short notice. One minute you might be in a meeting with the CEO about the cyber security strategy & the next you’re doing some PowerShell scripting or working with the IT outsource company to find out why the global VPN has gone down & what you need to do on-site to resolve the issue.
Currently pretty much everything in IT is outsourced to a third party so as part of your role you will be the face of IT to the business and therefore fully accountable for ensuring that third party is performing well & giving the business what it needs. IT has a good reputation within the business right now, so you’ll need to keep those standards high whilst making improvements. As the company grows, you’ll probably need to make a call on whether continuing with a third party is the right move or whether you should bring IT in-house & create a team under you, and if that’s the right thing, that’s what you’ll do.
The sky is truly the limit in this firm – Due to the varied nature of the role & how small the business currently is (just over 100 users across 5 locations) you’ll probably come from a technical background & take up the mantle of IT Manager within this small business, whilst having the appetite to grow with them because they plan to organically double in size over the next 2 years & acquire some competitors, growing even further.
As you can imagine this means that the project list is as long as my arm – everything from setting up new office locations from scratch, to identifying their cyber vulnerabilities & mitigating the short-, medium- & long-term risks, to moving their remaining physical servers into the cloud & maintaining/monitoring the Azure cloud offering, to merging future acquisitions into the current infrastructure estate.
Being honest, the key thing in this role is attitude. You’ve got to be a real team player, ready to roll your sleeves up & get stuck in when needed, none of that “that’s not my job” talk – everyone within this business is pragmatic, collaborative & accountable, so you’ll need to be too or it just won’t be the right business for you to join.
This organisation are based in Nottingham and they treat their staff like the highly-skilled, responsible team members that you are, so although it’d be ideal if you were based locally to Nottingham (because they’re looking to create a hybrid working-model in the aftermath of the pandemic); you will be adopting a “be where you need to be” mentality – if you need to be in the office, be there, if you don’t…don’t be! You’ll likely be there a lot to start with as you build relationships with stakeholders & build a better understanding of what needs doing, but after that, it’ll be up to you.
In short, this is a super exciting role for an ambitious IT Manager who is looking to really add value & create their legacy within a growing business. You’ll be completely accountable for the IT strategy so you need to be ready for that responsibility, and you will need to be used to managing your own workload accordingly.
