IT Manager | Nottingham | £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
“I think we’re big enough to have an IT Manager now, someone who will own our infrastructure & services and who can introduce us to new technologies which will grow with us and help us to work smarter not harder”
Take it from me, this is one of those opportunities that doesn’t come along very often - the opportunity to join a very-fast growing business on their way up, as their very first IT Manager and make this role whatever you want it to be.
In just 2 years this retail business have grown from 15 employees to 100 across 3 global locations, and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down in terms of growth. People want to buy what they’re selling…so the sky really is the limit here.
At present they don’t really have much in the way of IT. They all use MacBook’s which are fairly new so they haven’t had many problems yet, they use various off the shelf products around the business, and they all use O365, for which they are using a local small 3rd party for support….but other than that, it’s very much a blank canvas.
The real appeal for me in this role is that you can land in with your hands-on knowledge, being the “go-to” IT person, and then once you’ve got the lay of the land you can start looking strategically at how you can use technology to add value, look at networks, privacy, antivirus, data backups, access restrictions, maybe upgrade the finance software, or look at introducing an overarching CRM which will benefit them as they continue with such rapid growth…?
Once you’ve been in the role a year or so they’re projected to have tripled in size (again!) so it won’t be viable to continue using a third party for all their 1st & 2nd line support. At that point you’ll likely need to hire a team of 1st/2nd liners & renegotiate contracts with third party for general support / licences etc, whilst looking at cyber security processes, ISO audits and so on. Due to their projected growth plans, in a few years’ they’ll need a Head of IT, and you’ll be the prime candidate if you get this right.
So that’s the role, and the dream, but what’s it actually like working there?
The company culture is great; really relaxed and flexible, where employees are given the trust & freedom to just get on with their job and are rewarded for their hard work. To thank their staff for all their hard work during the recent health crisis, they closed the company for a week, giving everyone the week off, without anyone having to use a single day of holiday. The week off then culminated in a massive thank you party…I mean, what’s not to like?
You’ll be based at home and in their Central Nottingham offices most of the time with some travel to the London office when required, they give true flexibility, meaning you get time back in lieu if you need it, but you’ll need to be based within a commutable distance of Nottingham or be willing to relocate to apply.
