Reporting to the HR Director, you’ll join a small L&D function as they look to enhance their learning offering. Having relied primarily on outsourced providers until recently, the business is looking to recruit a Senior L&D Manager to develop their learning and development provision and build the foundations of their future learning culture.

The Scope of the Role

Where to start? Coming in at the early stages of the development of their L&D function, you’ll find there is a lot to go at; onboarding, performance, management & leadership – if you’re thinking about, they probably are too. Naturally, with limited resource and a hierarchy of priorities it won’t be possible to do everything at once but before anything fundamentally changes the postholder will be expected to build a competency framework and work with HR to create new development pathways.

The role will have the support of one or two others (TBC) but the postholder will take part in design and delivery (primarily senior management) of training. There may still be a requirement for some external support with specialist training or external coaches for the executive level and the postholder will be expected to manage these relationships.

It has been suggested that the overall offering will likely comprise of both face-to-face, virtual classroom and e-learning components so the Senior L&D Manager will need to be comfortable overseeing activities across all areas and may need to implement a new LMS to complement.

What is our client looking for?

We are looking for Senior L&D professionals with broad and varied experience, comfortable thinking strategically but also maintaining a hands-on responsibility. Experience supporting corporate functions or professional services (exclusively or as part of a wider remit) is a prerequisite to be considered for this post. You’ll need to evidence a relevant professional qualification such as ILM or CIPD and will ideally be a qualified coach.
