With a BSc in Psychology and Criminology, Alex was naturally drawn to recruitment by his passion for working with people and the clear connection between effort and success. He quickly established himself in the Accountancy and Finance sector, where he has excelled for over 15 years.
Alex joined Distinct just a year after its launch and has been instrumental in its growth as UK lead and board member, helping expand the company’s headcount from ten to over fifty. He has played a crucial role in developing the finance division across the Midlands and recently co-led the successful entry into the London market, bringing Distinct’s people-first approach to the accountancy practice sector.
Today, Alex continues to drive the UK team forward, specialising in connecting tax professionals – from part-qualified to partner level – with exciting opportunities across London, Reading, Milton Keynes, Kent, Surrey and Essex.
To ensure successful placements, Alex prioritises clear and consistent communication, helping him understand both what firms offer and what candidates seek. While daily responsibilities may be similar across tax firms, the work environment and growth opportunities can differ greatly.
Dedicated to aligning candidates with firms that resonate with their career aspirations – be it improved work-life balance, consistent bonuses, taking on strategic roles, or a more supportive atmosphere – Alex partners with niche accountancy firms, mid-market specialists and boutique advisory firms.
Alex is a dedicated advocate for career development, both at Distinct and throughout the finance community. In 2019, he founded the East Midlands Finance Awards to celebrate and connect the region’s finance professionals.
He also created Distinct’s Desk Ready programme, a comprehensive 12-week training initiative to equip new consultants with the essential skills for success. Further, Alex played a key role in establishing formal career paths for all Distinct staff, from billing consultants to managers, and developing and integrating the company’s values into the Personal Development Plan process.
Ultimately, Alex’s focus is on long-term success. He takes great pride in guiding consultants, candidates and clients at every stage of their careers. His unwavering commitment to people – both within and outside of Distinct – embodies his belief and Distinct’s core value, that people truly make the difference.
Outside of work, Alex’s weekends are a whirlwind of activity, keeping up with his two energetic daughters, Summer and Flora, whose hobbies range from dancing and football to swimming and gymnastics. He also values quality time with his wife, balancing his role as the family “taxi driver” with fun-filled adventures. Alongside family life, Alex maintains an active lifestyle. He is an avid gym goer and enjoys daily walks with Sarah dog (pictured below).
