Following sound advice to “pick something you enjoy,” Henry graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in Human Genetics. After university, he considered several career paths but ultimately wanted a role that would keep him locally connected while building meaningful relationships – and recruitment proved the perfect fit.
In 2014, Henry began his recruitment career in finance and accounting with a national agency. He quickly honed his expertise in placing newly qualified accountants – a specialism he continues to focus on today.
Since joining Distinct, Henry has played a huge role in the East Midlands Finance Awards and was recently recognised as ‘Players Player’ at Distinct’s annual awards ceremony. He remains dedicated to helping clients secure value-add team members and supporting qualified and part-qualified finance professionals across the Midlands.
Henry’s attention to detail and reliability are at the heart of his process. He takes the time to deeply understand both candidates’ aspirations and clients’ needs, ensuring the perfect match every time. Clear and consistent communication is central to his approach, helping him build trust and strong rapport throughout the process.
One standout example of Henry’s dedication was when he assisted a candidate relocating to the area. The candidate was anxious about securing a new role, but Henry presented multiple opportunities and helped them land a position that perfectly aligned with their career goals.
This strong rapport allows Henry to add significant value to his clients. Leveraging his extensive network, he often uncovers candidates who may not be actively seeking new opportunities but are the ideal fit for niche roles.
Henry fondly recalls the significant influence of Mark Bailey and Nicola Beach, who shaped the early stages of his recruitment career. Their commitment to mentoring, sharing expertise, and demonstrating that recruitment is about more than simply filling vacancies left a lasting impression. They taught Henry that success in the industry is built on forging meaningful, lasting relationships that benefit both clients and candidates.
Inspired by their example, Henry firmly believes that trust and connection are the cornerstones of success in recruitment. One of Henry’s proudest moments was supporting a candidate during a particularly challenging time after they had lost their job. Henry met with them face-to-face to offer guidance, helping them reflect on their situation, update their CV and prepare for interviews. The candidate ultimately secured a new role, which turned out to be a pivotal step in their career. Today, they are thriving and progressing strongly – an outcome that epitomises the long-term success Henry takes great pride in fostering.
Beyond the office, Henry’s life is filled with family adventures with his two young children and wonderful wife. Though spare time is rare, he relishes the opportunity to travel, having explored 36 countries so far, including a two-year stint living in New Zealand. An avid sports fan, Henry supports the LA Rams in the NFL and has a keen interest in boxing. He also stays fit with regular sessions on his Peloton – reaching for the 400 club this year.
