Since earning her 2:1 BA in Economics from Nottingham Trent University, Laura has built over 20 years of experience in both internal and external recruitment. Her career has spanned the Midlands, London, Scotland and Wales, providing her with a diverse perspective on what constitutes an exceptional workplace.
Laura seized the opportunity to represent Distinct during a maternity cover, having previously worked alongside our Directors and observed the fantastic culture they have created. As Associate Director of Internal Talent, she recruits trainees for our 12-week programme and experienced recruiters to strengthen our growing teams in the UK and USA!
Laura is driven by her genuine passion for seeing people succeed. This mindset perfectly aligns with Distinct’s culture, which is supportive and focused on career progression. She enjoys meeting candidates face-to-face or over video calls to gain a detailed view of their skills, ambitions and personalities. By building these insights, she accurately assesses their potential to thrive with Distinct’s guidance and enrich our evolving culture.
Laura takes a long-term approach to recruitment, building relationships and recognising that moving to a new job is a significant step. With extensive market insight and hands-on experience, she engages in every conversation with genuine enthusiasm, confident that if the timing isn’t right now, it often will be later. She finds the greatest reward in connecting with elusive recruiters and trainees, especially those who are not actively looking but demonstrate strong career prospects.
Her no-pressure, consistent approach reflects Distinct’s values and makes each hire even more rewarding, especially when she sees new faces reaching their targets and earning promotions. Laura is a true advocate for what we provide – from a strong work-life balance and competitive salaries to a transparent bonus scheme and the unique opportunity for US recruiters to relocate internationally.
Laura leads an active life outside of work with her family, dog and cat. With expert organisational skills, she makes the most of her lunch hour by attending reformer Pilates sessions or going for a run. On weekends, you’ll likely find her cheering from the sidelines at her children’s football matches, supporting Nottingham Forest or indulging her love for Mexican and Japanese cuisine.
