Enterprise Oxfordshire exists to help Oxfordshire grow — backing businesses, attracting investment, and driving economic development across the county. It’s a small team, around thirty people, but it manages a level of public and grant funding that carries real weight and real scrutiny.
They need someone to lead finance and corporate services through what’s genuinely an important few years for the organisation, working alongside a new Managing Director as things evolve around funding and structure.
You’ll be the senior finance voice in the room — advising the MD and Board directly, owning financial strategy, budgeting and reporting, and making sure the governance, risk and controls behind that public funding are properly held together. It’s a broad brief too: procurement, contracts, corporate services and a fair bit of Company Secretarial work sit under it as well.
Because the team is lean, you’ll also stay close enough to the detail to sort things yourself when it matters, rather than delegating everything down.
You’ll need a professional accountancy qualification — ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent — and experience somewhere the money comes with real accountability attached.
That could be local or central government, a LEP or Growth Hub, a university, housing, a charity, or another publicly funded or regulated setting. Just as important is some commercial instinct alongside it — this isn’t a role for someone who’s only ever worked one traditional public-sector way.
The practicalities: it’s a genuine four-day week, paid for 37.5 hours while working 30, with most people taking a Monday or Friday off. Predominantly home-based, with the team together in Oxford roughly once a week, usually a Wednesday. 23 days’ holiday on top of that four-day pattern, a 12% employer pension against a 4% minimum from you, plus healthcare and flexitime.
It’s a fixed-term contract through to 2028, tied to the current funding cycle, with a decent chance of turning permanent as the longer-term structure settles.
