Did you know that our mission statement is “supporting people to thrive”? We’re proud to say that we truly practice what we preach. When 70% of consultants participated in our 2024 employee survey, a common theme that materialised was around having more ways to progress – other than the standard billings and management avenues. So we got to work and implemented their feedback and we’re proud to say that we now have a far more inclusive career path.
Below are the common themes from our feedback and the improvements we have made.
Increase opportunity beyond billings
One of the most common themes from our survey was the desire for more career opportunities beyond being a top biller. As a result, we’ve introduced four unique paths to progression:
- Performance: Recognising the value, commitment and determination of our superbillers
- People: Identifying the leaders in our organisation who will inspire and empower their teams
- Project: Promoting the individuals who embrace new challenges and help our organisation evolve
- Proven: Rewarding the reliable, consistent, unswerving performers who underpin our organisation.
Each route is designed to offer opportunities for different strengths and contributions to shine, allowing everyone to find a path that suits their unique skill set whilst also helping our business to grow.
Provide clarity around business projects
We noted some uncertainty when it came to knowing what projects were available. As such, we’ve taken steps to clarify the different opportunities within the business. Our consultants are now free to contribute or take the lead on an accessible list of initiatives designed to aid our growth strategy in meaningful ways.
Improve equality for UK and US consultants
We recognise that market conditions can vary across the UK and USA and that these differences can affect the fairness of targets and promotions. To address this, we’ve worked to revamp our promotional touchpoints for both divisions, taking into account local conditions and averages. Our goal is to ensure fairness and equality for all consultants, no matter where they are located.
Introduce a career path built for the long-term
We’ve always taken pride in our trainee program, which supports those with no direct experience as they transition into recruitment, but we wanted to take it further. We’ve created a career path that not only welcomes new talent but also develops and challenges our people for years to come.
The four paths to progression, along with the added flexibility in promotion and project opportunities, form the foundation of a more inclusive, sustainable and future-focused career journey at Distinct.
The best part? In January alone, we’ve already celebrated ten well-deserved employee promotions. As our People Operations Manager, it’s incredibly rewarding to see so many consultants progress and succeed and we’re committed to providing more opportunities for our people to thrive.
