Senior Accountant | Midtown Toronto | 80,000 to 100,000
A lot of accountants join smaller firms thinking they will stay a couple of years.
Then they realise something.
When the team is small, your work actually matters. People notice what you do. You are not hidden three layers down from the Partners waiting for someone to eventually notice you exist.
This CPA firm in Midtown Toronto has grown steadily over the last few years. Good clients, good people, and a sensible approach to building the team.
The work is nicely varied as well. Audits, tax work, compilations and financial statements across a mix of owner managed businesses. It keeps things interesting and you get exposure to the full picture rather than being boxed into one narrow lane.
Because the firm is still growing, there is space ahead of you too. Some people will want to push towards Manager and eventually Partner. Others are perfectly happy being a very strong Senior with interesting clients and a good team around them.
Both are completely fine here.
You will need to have already spent some time in public accounting though. Ideally two or more years in a CPA firm, so T1s, T2s, financial statements and client work are already familiar territory.
If you are sitting in a firm now and thinking there might be a better fit out there, this could be worth exploring.
Feel free to reach out to Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment to discuss any questions.
Ryan Jaiswal is a Recruiter for Distinct Recruitment. He is an ex Accountant who is a little better at recruiting than he was at doing T1s or reviewing financial statements. He has handled Public Accounting recruitment across Canada for many years and spends most of his time speaking with CPA firms and accountants about how their careers are really going. Outside of work he is a dad of young twins who keep him busy. So if you want to talk to a recruiter who understands the need for flexibility or work life balance, he will certainly get it.

The apply button is there if you want it. But pressing it is not a marriage proposal. If you are just curious, we can have a chat first.
