Now this is a story all about how,
My work-life balance got flipped, turned upside down.
And I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there,
I’ll tell you how I wound up livin’ life from my office chair. ?
In busy season, born and raised,
CCH and Quickbooks is where I spent most of my days.
Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ all cool,
Double-checkin’ tick marks, obeyin’ tax rules.
When a couple of clients who were up to no good,
Started makin’ deadlines in my neighbourhood.
I got one little backlog, my partner got scared,
He said, “You’re workin’ every weekend ‘til that 1040 is filed!”
I begged and I pleaded for some PTO,
But he said, “After 10.15, bro!”
So I packed my laptop and I grabbed my chair,
And thought, “Maybe this time, I’ll try public accounting elsewhere…
Then I spotted a firm with a calmer air,
Garden City base, true flex hybrid flair.
Two days in the office, rest anywhere,
And I thought, “Yo – this is actually rare!
$125K, be the partner’s right hand,
Clients looked after all year – that’s the plan.
Paperless, cloud-based, no weekend despair,
Now that’s a fresh start… fit for the Prince of Bel-Air. ?
Right, here’s the thing about job applications – and this is where most people get it spectacularly wrong. They treat them like some sort of bureaucratic ritual where you must tick every single box or face immediate rejection by the HR gods.
If this position interests you, just apply. The apply button isn’t a marriage proposal, it’s a conversation starter.
Prefer the human touch? Splendid. Ring me up. I’m at 646-540-9647. Sometimes Indeed hides my number. If they’re sneaky like that, you’ll find my details lurking on LinkedIn. I’m Arran Jaiswal at Distinct North America. I start work at 6am EST, so happy to talk before your daily grind kicks in. After 5pm EST is fine too, but I might be a bit grumpy.
Think you only have 87% of the required experience? Perfect – apply anyway. The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that’s where it gets rather exciting.
