The strange thing about public accounting is how it convinces you that exhaustion is proof of value. Long hours, constant fire-fighting, promises of leadership that never quite materialise. You are told it is a “path” but the path seems to go in circles.
Now imagine something slightly different. A mid-sized, independent firm that has resisted being swallowed by the big consolidators. It is growing, it is independent, and it still believes that good work with good people is the point.
They want a Tax Director to lead a 15-person team. The role covers business and individual returns, but you will have a Project Manager to absorb the admin so your time goes into quality, strategy, and people. More importantly, you will have a say in shaping how the department works — new systems, new ideas, actual influence.
